MARIETTA GA — 05/18/2023 9:00 AM EST — Schools across the U.S. are reassessing their safety and security measures following the Nashville Covenant School shooting after the assailant shot the glass out of the building's side doors to enter.
In general, the increase in school shootings has prompted organizations such as the Texas Education Agency (TEA) to mandate that each Texas school district must install entry-resistant film on ground-level windows and glass doors.
In light of this, CoolVu of Marietta, a local leading provider of glass and surface film applications, is urging Georgia schools to align themselves with the same stance as Texas.
The company is launching an initiative to help local educational institutions mitigate active shooter events through the installation of retrofit ballistic shields and security window films on glass windows and doors. These proven products have been rigorously tested to make entryways and vision glass more difficult to breach in an attack-shooter incident.
CoolVu of Marietta's General Manager, Michele Popp, said, "We all have a role to play in keeping our schools safe. Parents, teachers, and community members can all work together to create a secure and supportive environment for learning."
Popp continued, "It's unfortunate schools need the same level of security as government buildings. But what we offer buys first responders time to save lives by deterring threats. And they complement a holistic approach to school safety that includes other measures such as training, drills, and mental health support."
CoolVu of Marietta can also provide more robust and cost-effective solutions to protect schools in addition to security window films, such as DefenseLite® and BulletShield® products, which are polycarbonate shields that are installed over existing windows and door glass.
BulletShield® is independently tested to meet forced entry and UL 752 ballistic standards and is designed for ballistic resistance. The DefenseLite® overglaze is 250 times stronger than glass and is designed for extreme forced-entry protection. Both products are nearly invisible once installed and are an affordable solution to help keep schools safe.
CoolVu of Marietta is offering free on-site evaluations for schools to help them evaluate their safety and security requirements, identify grant funding opportunities, and meet state deadlines. The assessments are open to all schools, including Local Education Agencies (LEAs), school districts, charter schools, education service centers (ESCs), institutions of higher education (IHEs), and nonprofit organizations (NPOs).
The company will coordinate with school officials in evaluating security window films and other solutions available to them to improve safety, such as DefenseLite® and BulletShield®, for added defense as well as understand their unique threat levels, security product options, and funding avenues available to them.
